Things to Do in Xining
A major attraction has to be the Dongguan Mosque, Qinghai Province’s largest mosque. Built in 1380, its majestic style combines both Islamic architectural features and Chinese traditional architectural art. The prayer hall covers about a third of an acre and holds over 3,000 people at the same time. Another of Xining’s beautiful buildings is the Ta’er Monastery, the religious activity centre for monks and followers of the Yellow Hat sect, a branch of Tibetan Buddhism. Consisting of 9,300 rooms and 52 halls, the Monastery is made up of Buddhist halls, sleeping and eating quarters and courtyards gracefully echoing each other.
