Things to Do in Beijing
Enjoy the ancient architecture of the Forbidden City – stroll through the magnificent royal palace at the heart of Beijing and take some time to find the temples scattered around it. Here the old streets and alleyways are always filled with life and things to see. Remember to visit the iconic Great Wall, snaking across the hills at the northern end of town. Modern buildings like Galaxy SOHO and the Olympic Stadium are definitely worth seeing too.
Beijing Travel Tips
The best time to go is usually spring (April-May) or autumn (October-November). Peak season (June-August) can be quite hot, with the occasional rainstorm. Passengers in transit can stay in Beijing for 72 hours without a visa; otherwise a 30-day visa is standard.
Getting Around Beijing
The Beijing subway is easy to use and also the quickest way to get around the city. The bus is cheap, but can be crowded, while travelling by rickshaw and taxi is also cheap but not at all crowded. Cycling is easy in Beijing, which is mostly flat.
